Can You Use a DNA Test for Citizenship by Descent?

My 23andMe says 40% Italian... No country accepts DNA tests.

Why Not

Citizenship is legal, not genetic. DNA cannot prove the specific ancestor, their citizenship, or the chain of descent.

DNA IS Useful For

  • Confirming family stories
  • Finding relatives with documents
  • Breaking research dead ends

What You Need

Government-issued documents: birth certificates, naturalization records, apostilles, translations.
